What is stress? Something that interacts with our physiology to simulate a fight or flight response. A challenge to our homeostasis. One out of every 2 Americans report that stress negatively impacts their lives, and 40 million Americans have been diagnosed with anxiety. Some of the best ways to see if your stressors in life are too much would be to evaluate if are you getting better/progressing and/or are you happy in your current state. Remember there is a fine line when it comes to stress, and being able to diagnose when good stress becomes bad stress is an important skill to develop.

Difference between good stress and bad stress:

Good Stress/Eustress:

1. Working out

2. Growth/new endeavors/challenges

3. Fasting

4. Environmental stresses (can be good in doses)

5. Working on new skills

6. Learning new things

7. Normally acute stress (like 15-60 mins)

8. Generally good stresses are voluntary

Bad stresses/Distress:

Note: Any good stress can become a bad stress (if taken to an excessive level)

1. Work (can be)

2. Bad boss

3. No control of your time (no time to do the things you love or enjoy)

4. Watching negative media

5. Social media/FOMO

6. Financial stress

7. Poor diet

8. Poor/lack of sleep.

Ways to manage stress:

1. healthy diet which is probably most important

2. working out/exercising/movement

3. supplements/ashwagandha

4. getting out into nature

5. unplugging from electronics

6. social time/interacting with people in person

7. vacations or taking time for yourself/family

8. changing your perspective/finding the positive in more situations

9. meditation

10. seeking a medical professional

11. having a clear aim in life/purpose

12. getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night
